Plein Air paint-outs are scheduled from May through October.  We gather at locations throughout Reno and the Sierra and enjoy the company of other artists practicing in a variety of mediums.  Paint-outs culminate with an informal critique over lunch. Artists within the community are welcome to attend.

2018 Plein Air Paint-Out Schedule

Paint-outs are scheduled for Saturdays and times are 9:00 to 11:30 AM followed by an optional 30 minutes of sharing and lunch.  Those in attendance can meet at the site to determine best place for the end of session gathering.  Weather and conditions are always iffy, so come prepared and join us to paint, draw, photograph or just enjoy the company and scenery.

Our paint-out season will begin in May to Thomas Creek Park.  We hope to see lotsa wildflowers at this popular park and providing the weather is kind to us.

May 19. Thomas Creek Park - Thomas Creek Road.  Take Mt Rose Hwy , right onto Thomas Creek Road OR Zolezzi Lane and left onto Thomas Creek Road.  NO Restrooms or Porta-potties. 

June 9.  Idlewild Park, Rose  Gardens,  west of Booth St.  Meet in the Rose gardens for  lunch & share.

June 30.  Hidden Valley Park.  Take Pembroke Dr., turn right onto Parkway Dr. which leads into park.  The long grassy knoll to the left and in shade, with western views, is good place to meet.

July 21. Tahoe Meadows for alpine wild-flowers.  Mt Rose Hwy , 1/2 mile beyond summit and turn left thru gate, then down to parking lot.

August 19.  Silver Saddle Ranch/Park in Carson.  This is a new site.  Directions in next newsletter.

Sept 8.  Rancho San Rafael after Balloon Race crowds  OR  Bartley Ranch

September 22.  Crystal Peak Park , Verdi. Take I-80 W exit 3 at Co Rd 136/ Verdi Road to Crystal Peak Rd.

October 13. Galena Creek Park , hopefully in fall colors.  18350 Mt Rose Hwy, 2nd entrance to the right ( not the visitor center entrance )

Please Note:  Times are guidelines as artists can start earlier or work later.  Sites have restrooms with the exception of Thomas Creek Park, and are open public places.  Bring a painting partner if you are concerned about being alone.  Also, severe weather or emergency alerts could cancel any planned paint-out.  Questions, i.e. who is going to be at a particular site, please call Sharon Welker 775  847  5278 or Marji Smith 775  224  5289.
